Abstract
Introduction - The study of performance in volleyball, is advancing from an isolated view of the effectiveness of each of the main actions of the game, towards the study of the relationships that are generated between different actions and how to study the overall performance of the game or of the phase in which it develops. Therefore, there is a search for a deeper and global understanding of the game. Among the phases of the game in volleyball, the K1 phase acquires great relevance as the main way of scoring for teams, presenting a relatively stable structure due to less variability of the preceding action and less contextual interference than other phases. Among the main contextual variables in K1 are the rotation of the receiving team, which makes it possible to understand each of the rotations as isolated situations, and the receiving zone.
Objectives - The main objectives of this study were related to analyzing the relationship that some of the behavioral variables exert on the reception zone, and the influence that the rotation of the receiving equipment and the reception zone have on the main performance indicators of the K1, in Volleyball teams of the highest international level for men.
Method - This study was developed through observational methodology, with a level of relational questioning, with an observation technique based on facts and allospectively, with a systematic or structured aspect. There was a sample of 5,104 service actions, belonging to 29 men's matches of world teams of the highest level, played in the Olympic cycle from 2012 to 2016.
Conclusions - After performing a statistical analysis of the data, the distribution in the reception zone was significantly influenced by behavioral variables prior to the reception hit, such as the type of service and the net pass of the service ball, as well as by the rotation of the receiving equipment. Differences in the receiving zone related to team rotation and type of service seem to indicate a tactical intention of the serving teams. In relation to performance, a significant relationship between the reception zone and reception performance was found, and when integrating the variables rotation of the team and reception area with the performance variables using a multivariate ordinal regression, a significant relationship was found in the joint interaction of team rotation and receiving area on receiving performance and attack performance. Despite having found significant relationships, the effect sizes obtained low values, and in the case of ordinal regressions, they allowed to explain a low level of variability through the model. However, the improvement of the regressive models by introducing the interaction of the contextual variables shows the effect of the interaction between both variables on the performance of the reception and the attack.
